Who are you running for? — Join in the fight against breast cancer by running a full or half marathon through Marathon for the Cure™
Rally for the Cure — Golf, tennis, dinner events and so much more...
A brand to trust — We are honored that Susan G. Komen for the Cure® ranked number one in a recent Harris Interactive poll as the most valued non-profit brand and the charity people are most likely to donate money to. Additionally, Komen for the Cure ranked second on the 2010 list of the nation’s most trusted charities. Thank you to all who help us daily in the fight to end breast cancer!
Q. What is the Race for the Cure® all about?
A. The Komen Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. We are the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, with over 100 Race for the Cure events across the country and three international Affiliates and well over 1 million participants since 2005.
Q. What is I AM THE CURE®?
A. Susan G. Komen for the Cure created I AM THE CURE® to boost the educational outreach of the Komen Race for the CURE series by motivating Race participants to take an active role in their own breast health. I AM THE CURE® is a rallying cry that is emotional, memorable and motivational. It speaks to the importance of early detection, and provides simple, action-oriented messages that Race participants can put into action. On Race Day, visit the education tent for more information. Also look for the I AM THE CURE® cheerleaders and join the rally cry: Who's the cure? I am! What's the cure? We are! Where's the cure? Right here! When's the cure? Starts now!
Q. Where does the money raised by the Komen Southwest Florida Affiliate go?
A. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Affiliate remain in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades, and Lee counties to fund community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for the medically underserved. A minimum of 25% of the net proceeds support the Komen Foundation's Award and Research Grant Program.
Q. Do I have to get sponsors in order to participate?
A. Fundraising is not required, but is a wonderful way to do more for the Cure. Race entry fees alone to do not provide the necessary funds to win the fight against breast cancer. If every participant in this year's Race raised $100, there would be an additional $1 million available to fund research, education, screening, and treatment. Register on line and use the personal webpage and tools provided to raise money online.
Q. Are there fundraising awards?
